Being an early childhood education leader is both rewarding and challenging.
From supporting teams, building relationships with whānau and nurturing tamariki through to managing compliance and organisational systems, the demands are high. Choosing the right professional learning can make a real difference in building confidence, capability, and
resilience.
At 4E’s Consulting, we offer two complementary pathways designed for ECE leaders:
Leaders Lab and PGC Peer Pods.
Understanding the differences between them can help you
select the right fit for your current needs.
Leaders Lab: Structured Learning for Immediate Impact
Leaders Lab is designed for leaders who want focused, practical learning that strengthens leadership skills and confidence. These sessions are presenter-led and highly structured, with each session centred on a specific leadership topic, such as
- Team building
- Internal evaluation
- Curriculum planning
- Creating inclusive learning communities
This programme provides clear objectives, guided discussion, and practical resources and takeaways that can be applied immediately in your centre. Leaders Lab is ideal for centre managers, team leaders, or aspiring leaders who are stepping into new roles or seeking to
enhance their strategic thinking and decision-making abilities.
With a term-based structure and targeted sessions, it delivers intensive, high-impact learning in a short timeframe within small, supportive groups of 6- 10 participants.
PGC Peer Pods: Reflection, Peer Connection, and Endorsement
PGC Peer Pods offers a different kind of support. These sessions are member-led andreflective, focusing on discussion, problem-solving, and professional growth through collaboration. Guided by experienced facilitators, Peer Pods provide a space to explore leadership practice in the context of real-world scenarios and the Teaching Standards.
This programme is delivered monthly over the course of the year and is particularly valuable for leaders who want to maintain professional endorsement, engage in sustained reflection, and connect with peers.
Peer Pods allow leaders to learn through dialogue, share experiences, and gain insight into their own leadership style in a supportive environment.
Key Differences at a Glance

Which Path is Right for You?
Choosing the right programme depends on your current needs. If you are looking for practical strategies, confidence, and structured growth, Leaders Lab is the ideal starting point. If your goal is reflective practice, peer connection, and maintaining professional endorsement, PGC Peer Pods may be the better fit.
Many leaders find that participating in both over time offers the most comprehensive support, combining skill development with ongoing reflection and connection.
One Goal, Two Paths
Both Leaders Lab and PGC Peer Pods share a common purpose: to support ECE leaders in creating thriving learning environments, strong teams, and confident leadership. While the approaches differ, both pathways help you grow professionally, build capability, and make a
positive impact on your service and the children in your care.
Choosing the right path is about identifying what will support your leadership journey today, while leaving room for growth tomorrow.
